What does it mean to have a voice? I think it means you have an opinion. You stand for something and you are not afraid to let others know about it. For many years I had a loud voice. It was also sometimes obnoxious and overbearing. Because I was criticized for my voice, I spent many years attempting to tone it down and be quiet.
There is definitely a time and space when quiet is the best thing. However, as is my pattern, the pendulum swung way in the opposite direction. I had no voice. No opinion. I became a follower.
I’ve done quite a bit of work in this area and have made strides in finding my voice. I’m still working on bringing the pendulum back in the other direction. The direction of voice.
So, last night I was asking myself what I believe and what I stand for. I came up with some interesting and unexpected things.
What do you value? What do you believe? What do you stand for? Have you ever written these things down? I invite you to give it a try. You may learn something about yourself and find your voice or make it stronger.
Through my sabbatical, my voice is becoming stronger. I’m going to have quite a bit to say when my sabbatical is over. Watch out!
